3 of Gears

This is where I am on this card. The background is collaged with antique dictionary pages and I’ve been considering overlaying those areas with more words in a mix of calligraphy scripts and stamped fonts. The words all relate to the typical meanings for the 3 of swords. Do you guys think that’s a good idea or should I just stick to a few more antiquing washes and detailing the heart? I’m just concerned too many details won’t show when it’s shrunk and printed.

  1. that’s really pretty. I am not the person to evaluate what can be seen at a small size. My eyes can’t see really small stuff now anyway because of age and cataracts.

If you’re going to stamp something, test it on your image with gimp or photoshop to get the optimal size.

  2. Thanks! I like how the overall design worked out but I do need to pull out the details in the heart.
I only have two sizes of stamps in a few fonts and my photo-editing skills are weak so I’ll stick to doing trials on separate strips and holding them over it to judge scale. (yeah, I’m just not very high-tech) I just don’t want it to read as too busy.

  3. I like it very much. Also, remember that some of the details could be enhanced in Photoshop if you want.

I’m trying to work some of the Rider Waite references in to mine as well. That’s one reason I put the cups and pouring liquid in with the elephant junk trunk. The peck of the day, turkey skants man and 4 of tools (owls) will be even easier to equate with the common symbolism, I think.

This is looking like a great deck so far.
