My dad had a cabooster kit. It was black, under a foot long, and had a zipper. He put all his travel toiletries inside it. He only called it "cabooster kit" for my entire life. Why would I ever think there was another name for it?

So, when I was a young woman, out on my own, with my own job and my own money, I thought getting him a nice one for his birthday would be a good, daughterly thing to do.

Imagine, if you will, the look of embarassment on my face as I ask a salesman in a quite upscale department store where I might find a cabooster kit, and having to describe it, and finally when understanding dawns on the clerk, his haughty reply: "Oh, you mean a DOPP Kit"
